Skirts in the Dirt #10
Hi racers!
We are getting ready for Skirts in the Dirt on Sunday, August 20t. Once again the Lakeshore Mountain Biking Sisters will be organizing the race this year.
Skirts in the Dirt is now hosted by the Lakeshore Mountain Biking Sisters and all proceeds go back into taking care and beautifying Wahlfield Trail, new trail build in Jamestown and the Lakeshore Mountain Biking Sisters for their recruitment of more women to biking! We are so grateful to Head Trail Coordinator at Wahlfield Park, Bill Parker. Without Bill, we would not have such a beautiful trail to utilize for Skirts in the Dirt. If you are not already a member consider be sure to consider joining your local mountain biking chapter. There is strength in numbers and the more members we have supporting mountain biking the better! We can use membership numbers to help leverage good things for our trails.
We are looking for race volunteers. Send tell your friends to come race with you and send your family, non-biking, or guy friends to this link if they'd like to volunteer. Thank you!
We will be announcing podium awards after participants in each category finish. For example, the Dirt Diva race starts at 9am and we will do the podium after all of our Divas have finished, even if the Weekend Warriors have already taken off at their 10:30am start time. We understand that this may be inconvenient for those who want to cheer for other riders out there but will be doing our best to keep you all safe and happy. This will also allow for people to leave if they need to get to other commitments on Sunday. Truthfully though, we hope you all stay.
We will have our drawings at Wahlfield Park and with your entry you will receive a ticket in your race packet! Thanks to all our sponsors and to everyone that donates goodies to raffle off! We think we’ll have more raffle prizes than ever before!! You can make a donation for additional raffle tickets to bid on the items that you want to win. $2 each, $5 for 3 tickets, or a "wingspan" of tickets for a $20 donation! Bring cash with you to packet pick up or on race day, because your odds of winning something are pretty dang high. Checks or additional donations to MEMBA or the WMMBA can also be collected at Wahlfield Park.
Packet Pick-up will be at Wahlfield Park at the little covered shelter on Saturday, August 19th from 5pm until 7pm.
You may also pick up your packet and swag at Wahlfield beginning at 8am on race day. We will be under the big pavilion. Look for mom Martindale and grandma Wroblewski and snag your stuff before your race starts.
Race Day Schedule:
8am until noon packet pick up
9am Dirt Diva start
10:30am Weekend Warrior
11:30am Single Speed, Fat Bike and Little Diva start
12:30pm Never Ever!, Oops! I did it again!, Squirts in the Dirt and Tinny Squirts start
*a parent may ride with their Squirt during the race
1pm We will begin to announce our raffle winners. You do not have to be present to win one of the raffle items. If you can’t stay, be sure to include your contact information on the ticket so we can be sure to get the prize to you.
Okay! We think that is it for now! Thank you again so much for participating in Michigan's only women's mountain bike race. A reminder: Lakeshore Mountain Biking Sisters are leading group rides at Wahlfield for a few weeks before race weekend. If you would like to pre-ride the course, join them on their respective group rides.
